Line Equipment: Track Equipment Maintainers under supervision, inspect, test, maintain, alter, repair and operate electromechanical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of railroad track in MTA New York City Transit’s subway system. They maintain, repair and operate cranes, tampers, compressors, front-end loaders, engines and motors, rail saws, chain saws, payloaders, forklifts, conveyors, track lubricators, ballast regulators, snow blowers, grease pumps, and machine shop equipment; drive trucks; keep records; make computations; prepare reports; and perform related work. 


Signals: Signal Maintainers, under supervision, maintain, install, inspect, test, alter and repair MTA New York City Transit’s railroad signal systems on the road and in the shop. They maintain, service and repair various types of railroad signal equipment, including all-electric, electro-pneumatic, optical, all-relay and mechanical interlocking machines; centralized traffic control machines; electronic code systems; train identity systems; microprocessors; switch machines; automatic train stops; color light and semaphore signals; electronic train control and monitor systems; and related power and control equipment. They keep records, drive a motor vehicle, and perform related work.

Power Cable Maintainers, under supervision, maintain, install, inspect, test, alter and repair power feeder cable systems and communication cable systems, both aerial and underground, between generating plants, substations and circuit breaker houses, between the Main Distribution Frame Room and the Telephone Terminal Boxes throughout the 

Power Cable Maintainers, under supervision, maintain, install, inspect, test, alter and repair power feeder cable systems and communication cable systems, both aerial and underground, between generating plants, substations and circuit breaker houses, between the Main Distribution Frame Room and the Telephone Terminal Boxes throughout the systems, including: low voltage control cables, manholes, duct lines and related appurtenances. They splice single and three-conductor lead-covered cables, multi-conductor and communication cables and replace faulty sections; conduct test for faults; handle asbestos-containing materials; may be required to remove waste matter from manholes and cableways in order to access the cables; drive motor vehicles; prepare reports; and perform related work.

A: under supervision, perform carpentry work in subway, surface and elevated structures, including stations, enclosures and related buildings. They do other structural work when necessary, including incidental painting; and perform related work.

This includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance, installation, inspection, testing, alteration and repair of rails, frogs, switches, ties, plates and insulated joints, and their related adjusting, tamping, welding, grinding, greasing and cleaning. Track Workers perform related work.
